What is a GS1 Digital Link?

GS1 Digital Link is a standard that encodes product identification data into a web URI. Instead of a barcode that only machines can read, or a QR code that points to a generic URL, a GS1 Digital Link QR code resolves to a structured product data record — exactly what the EU Battery Regulation and ESPR require.

When a market surveillance authority, recycler, repairer, or consumer scans your product QR code, they reach a publicly accessible Digital Product Passport viewer showing the data required by regulation.

How Traceable generates your QR code

Unique identifier

Every product gets a unique identifier based on GTIN + serial or batch number. This identifier is encoded into the GS1 Digital Link URI.

QR code generation

When you publish a passport, Traceable generates a QR code in both SVG and PNG formats — ready for product labels, packaging, and print materials.

Public DPP viewer

Scanning the QR code opens a public viewer showing the passport data at the appropriate access level — public, authorised, or surveillance.

EU Central Registry — ready from July 2026

The EU Central Digital Product Passport Registry launches in July 2026. All published passports must be registered with a unique identifier that connects to the central system.
